Where:             Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services

3333 Third Ave.

Sacramento, CA 95817

Why:                Eye exams are an important part of a person’s overall health routine at any age and can provide a means for the early detection and treatment of serious health conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Some health conditions do not display symptoms until damage has already occurred, but an eye doctor can tell a lot about a patient’s overall health by viewing blood vessels in the eyes.

To date, through community outreach programs such as VSP Mobile Eyes®, VSP has invested close to $155 million in free eyecare and eyewear for more than 825,000 adults and children in need throughout the United States.

Visuals:            Local students and residents receiving free eyecare on-board a fully stocked, state-of-the-art, 45-foot mobile eye exam clinic. Some students may be receiving crucial eyecare for the first time in their lives.

Interview Opportunities: Local students and residents in-need; Kelly Siefkin, SFBFS; local VSP optometrists Joanna Helmus and Tiffany Lu; Lori Fanning, VSP Mobile Clinics Operations Manager
